DIABETES

Diabetes is a disease where there is too much sugar (also called glucose) in the blood, which affects how the body uses glucose. Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to cardiovascular disease as well as nerve, kidney, eye, skin and foot damage. It can also lead to amputations, hearing impairment and has been linked to Alzheimer’s disease. Diabetes in adults in Lake County has increased over time from 3.4% to 6%. An additional 14% have been diagnosed with prediabetes and are at greater risk of developing the disease.
